Milan Hotels - Frugal Travel Tips For Daytrips From Orlando - Space Coast
The coastal area in Florida's Northeast is a day trip not to be missed, the Space Coast, in particular. Orlando offers the traveler so much to see and do that often it is forgotten that the area surrounding the city is full of interesting sights also.
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge
The ultra frugal traveler can only enjoy the sights seen from outside the admission gates including a roadside rocket (which is a great photo opportunity). The Kennedy Space Center is the biggest attraction in the area but also boasts the biggest price tag ($30 plus for adults).
And waterfowl, armadillos, the wildlife to spot are alligators. ) and a wildlife trail. I did not see one. The highlights include a manatee spotting stop (Manatees are not guaranteed. Sharing the same land as NASA however is the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and it is free to enter.
Cocoa And Other Beaches
Impromptu volleyball games can be joined simply for the asking. Surfers ride the waves, at Cocoa Beach. And other beach gear, bring quarters to feed the meters. All along the shoreline are various beaches ranging from the calm and sandy to the surf worthy and rocky.
That memorable event is free. Cocoa Beach is the perfect place to watch a shuttle launch.
Ron Jon Surf Shop
The store itself is beautiful with surfing sculptures and other art. Demonstrations and music, ron Jon boasts about being open 24 hours a day like the beach and there are often autograph signings by famous surfers. Surfers, you guessed it. . . Though arrive early as the spaces fill up with, there is even free parking. 2 million people trek to Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach every year.
The Dinosaur Store
Admission is free and the knowledge first rate. Their collection is so good that many pieces are included in museum exhibits. The store was founded by a couple's love for digging and each specimen is personally hand selected by them. This is the genuine deal. Then The Dinosaur Store in Cocoa Beach is a must see. Have a dinosaur fan in the family?
Proving that there is more to Florida than Disney, the Space Coast offers much for the frugal traveler, from space to surfing to sunbathing and dinosaurs.
